The Coalition welcomes confirmation today by Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa that the government of Indonesia remains open to discussions regarding Coalition border protection policy.
The Coalition has said on many occasions that it has kept Indonesia informed about its policy intentions but that it is unable to enter into formal negotiations with a foreign government from Opposition.
Foreign Minister Natalegawa has also confirmed that the Joint Communiqué of the Australia-Indonesia Annual Leaders’ Meeting does not preclude each nation taking action within its own jurisdiction.
